Brando, turista italiano in fuga da uno scandalo finanziario, si stabilisce nella comunità di surfisti di Peró, quartiere costiero di Cabo Frio, in Brasile — e si innamora di Maia, figlia del pastore locale João, ex avvocato che vent'anni prima aveva contribuito a fermare un resort che minacciava le dune protette della città. Quando lo stesso progetto ritorna con appoggi politici più solidi, João raduna di nuovo la comunità per opporsi, ignaro che Brando è stato mandato dallo sviluppatore per infiltrarsi e smantellare la resistenza dall'interno. Mentre i sentimenti di Brando per Maia si approfondiscono e il movimento inizia a fidarsi di lui, deve scegliere tra la vita che si sta costruendo e quella che è costretto a proteggere per ricatto.

Brando, an Italian tourist fleeing a financial scandal back home, settles into the surf community of Peró, a coastal neighborhood in Cabo Frio, Brazil — and falls for Maia, daughter of the local pastor João, a former lawyer who once helped stop a resort from paving over the town's protected dunes. When the same development returns with stronger backing, João rallies the community to fight it again, unaware that Brando has been sent by the developer to infiltrate and dismantle the resistance from within. As Brando's feelings for Maia deepen and the movement starts to trust him, he has to choose between the life he's building and the one he's being blackmailed into protecting.
